Jefferson Government Relations, LLC (Jefferson) has had a seat at the decision-making table on issues of great importance in the health insurance industry. Because of our experience in health care policy, we enjoy trusted relationships with Members of Congress and Administration officials who are focused on these issues, which in turn enables us to offer advice and counsel to these decision makers. We have been, and continue to be, in the middle of the patient protection and uninsured debates, and understand how various pieces of legislation will impact the insurance industry.

We assist clients in assessing their needs within the realm of insurance policy, and map out what actions will be most beneficial toward the client's goals. Some of our work has included assisting clients with liability issues for insurers, health insurance tax savings initiatives, ERISA and Medicare policy matters and policy fixes at the Administrative level.

We work with the insurance industry clients we represent to provide Members of Congress, the Administration and their staffs with a front-line understanding of the impact of certain proposals on the health insurance industry, and on Americans. We utilize client in-depth knowledge of their own business as a resource for decision makers in Washington to help them see the best policy solution, thus building the decision maker's understanding and our client's relationship as a reliable, expert source of information.

Jefferson's successes in this area include:

• Shaping legislative provisions to bar frivolous lawsuits against health insurance providers
• Coalition building with both parties in specific support of tax credits for health insurance
• Advancing legislation to allow beneficial tax treatment of a client's products
• Encouraging modification of one HHS interpretation of IRS policy on employer contributions.
