Small Business

Small Business can be affected by the federal government in a myriad of ways general to small business, as well as in ways that are industry specific. Jefferson Government Relations, LLC (Jefferson) works with Small Business clients to identify areas of concern and develop strategies to best utilize federal regulation and law to secure a healthy environment for that business.

Through our experience working in Congressional offices of jurisdiction and the executive branch, we understand how best to frame business issues, and where Members of Congress stand on those issues, allowing us to steer towards allies and away from pitfalls. We find that small businessmen are experts in their fields and can provide Congress and the Administration with the kind of reliable and insightful understanding that leads to good policymaking. As we work in this way to define the issue with government officials, at the same time we are making the case for our client's goals.

Jefferson's successes in this area include:

    • On behalf of a nation-wide group of franchisees, Jefferson is coordinating the interests of the House Committee on Small Business and the House Judiciary Committee in assuring that its Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act (SBREFA) is adhered to in key regulatory undertakings under the Americans with Disability Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG).
    • Jefferson staved off a movement for so-called "Franchise Reform" by demonstrating to potential legislative cosponsors that proposed legislation would hurt both franchisers and franchisees, as well as consumers.
